Diakonos (Deacons) Ministry
Deacon Janice Gillis, Ministry Leader
The word deacon is derived from the Greek word diakonos, which is a standard ancient Greek word meaning “servant”. It is generally assumed that the office of deacon originated in the selection of seven men by the apostles in the book of Acts, to assist in charitable work in the early church. However, there is also evidence of female deacons through the work of Phoebe in Romans 16, letters from the fore-fathers of the early church, and tombstones unearthed in later years. As a result, our Diakonos board is not gender specific. In order to serve as a deacon, the individual must be self-controlled in speech, desires, and actions, sound in faith and service, and manage their household well. It is the responsibility of the Deacons to assist the Pastors in serving communion, visiting the sick, and conducting Baptism. The Deacons also serve those in distress or in need through prayer, phone calls, and benevolent care. If you feel that God is calling you to this ministry please call your assigned Deacon or your pastor.
Trustee Ministry
Trustee Shaleta McKinney, Ministry Leader
The Trustee Ministry functions as the overseers of God’s property. They are in charge of budgetary matters and appropriations of funds. The trustees also develop a uniform system for accepting donations and offerings, paying bills, and making purchases. All revenues and expenditures are documented by the ministry and evaluated periodically during trustee meetings. The board is also responsible for maintaining the physical property of the church and making policy decisions on whether or not outside organizations may rent and use space within the church. The trustee ministry may also be tasked with assessing property insurance liability risks and ensuring that the church is in compliance with neighborhood and zoning regulations. Recommendations for appointments to this ministry is made by the Pastors and approved by current ministry members.
The Prayer Ministry
Missionary, Portia Brister, Ministry Leader
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou Knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3
This Prayer ministry is essential because it aids in transforming us into the image of Jesus Christ, and it reveals to us the heart and mind of God. The prayer ministry exists to bring our congregation together on one accord in prayer regularly. We seek to receive God’s blessing, direction, and power to carry out the mission assignment for our church and community. It brings us closer to God and invites Him into whatever situation we are facing. The Prayer Ministry provides an opportunity for both corporate and individual prayer. The prayer ministry is dedicated to helping saints develop and deepen their prayer lives collectively as well as individually. We have a dedicated hour of prayer scheduled before the weekly Bible study. We host a weekly conference call line, where we intercede for our Pastors, Ministers, the ministries, the congregation, the community, and the world. It is our goal to lead and teach the church as directed by the Holy Spirit through scripture and other Bible-based media as it pertains to prayer.

Music Ministry
Elder Ezra Williams, Minister of Music
The music ministry has two different components that help to sets the atmosphere and usher in the presents of the Holy Spirit. The music team consists of the musicians and the praise and worship team who in collaboration select songs, rehearse, and spends time giving praise and prayer both collectively and privately. In order to be affective, each member should be prepared to enter into rehearsals and worship services with a genuine spirit of thankfulness, a heart for worship, and a commitment to their gifts and talents. So if you can sing, want to sing, or you play an instrument we need you. This ministry meets once per week on Monday at 7:00 PM to practice in preparation for the weekly worship service.
Youth Ministry
Minister Dorothy Edwards, Ministry Leader
At LTWC the youth ministry was developed with the intent in mind to create a space that presents multiple opportunities to our young people to encourage them to use their God-given gifts and talents. We have furthered that aim through implementing ACTS 29 (the next chapter) – our new youth mentoring program which began in 2019. The programs initiative is to help our youth recognize they are the “next chapter” of leaders and innovators who have so much to offer the world through their spiritual gifts and talents. We are intentional in our actions to reach our young people right where they are; in the balance of their growth while helping them to recognize and maximize their full potential. So often, the approach is to change them and get them to see things our way, when in fact, it is the youth who changes us. Through this ministry we hope that they are more open to expressing themselves and they open our eyes to new and innovative ways to spread God’s love to others. Their creative minds soar beyond what we can imagine and we are excited about them writing the next chapter in their lives, our lives, and the life of the church. If you have a passion for working with youth and making a difference please come and join us. We can use your talents and time.
